Mona's Story

Mona – Pit Bull mix – 3 yrs – female (44lbs)

Today, we would like you to meet a very special little girl: Mona. This little lady was left pregnant and alone in a backyard when people moved away. She gave birth out there and, when a neighbor called asking for help, the county shelter picked her up. We were asked to help and happily took this new mama in to safety. We sent her to our “mama-foster” where she was able to care for her puppies in peace.

Mona was VERY unsure of people at first and would not allow her foster mom to go into her kennel. She was terrified and we don’t even want to imagine what she’s been through. One day, the foster let her out of the kennel and she just followed her around. Within a few hours, Mona was totally attached to her and her foster mom could do anything with her. Mona let her guard down and turned into a goofy, silly, happy girl who just wanted to be close to her foster mom.

Unfortunately, once her puppies were weaned and Mona went to our shelter, it was the same thing all over again – she trusted no one! We were sad and frustrated because we saw how loving and affectionate she could and wanted to be. After some time going slow and being patient, Mona is once again loving and trusting of many of our staff and volunteers.

Mona is fiercely loyal to whomever she trusts and that person can do anything with her. We REALLY believe that Mona deserves a chance to have a normal, happy life; but it certainly won't be easy to find that perfect person. We’re asking for a kind individual(s) to consider taking this very special girl on. We’d like her to be fostered first, until we know she’s comfortable, and we will provide a trainer (at no cost) to help with the transition. Mona will need a fairly quiet home without a lot of activity. She does play well with other dogs, although she can be a bit bossy (typical female pitty), and gets the cutest zoomies. She also has the most adorable “smile”. Once she loves you, you will experience a devotion and bond like no other! If you would like to learn more about our wonderful little mama, please text our director, Toni directly at 602.686.4158 – she will be happy to talk to you about our special girl Mona.
