Momma's Story

Momma is a sweet girl with one simple wish, and that is a soft bed of her own. She is a fawn pit mix with a white patch on her chest, amber eyes, and two ears that do not always agree on which way to fold. Momma came to Petersburg Animal Care and Control as a stray, so she is still new to us. She has clearly had puppies not long ago, and she is still putting some weight back on, so the family who takes her should expect to watch her keep filling out for a while yet. She is as sweet as they come, and she would be happiest in a home where a cozy spot is already waiting for her. Being honest about what we do not know. We have not had Momma long enough to know how she does with other dogs, cats, or children, and we will share more as we get to know her. We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
