Mole from the Hay Field's Story
11/3/2025 update: Mole is from a litter of 11 and his Mum, brother and only sister all came up to Colorado last transport leaving Mole with one brother left in Texas who was adopted by the rescuers. As a result he has really come out of his shell and his confidence has blossomed now that he's had to be more independent. His go to greeting is to sit and try and shake hands.

Mole and his 10 siblings were found with their Mum Moana (also for adoption) in a hay field down in San Antonio, Texas. The owners of the hay field took them in and exposed them to the farm life, including chickens, rabbits and quail!

7 months, 40 pounds, black & white Shepherd/Lab mix

Good on leash

Kennel Trained: Yes

Good with dogs: Yes

Good with cats: Yes

Good with kids: Good with older kids, younger kids not suggested

Potty trained: Working on it

Apartment : Yes

Does not jump

Barks: Sometimes

Separation Anxiety: Not really

Chews: Not really

Good in the car

Doesn't chase or fetch

Personality: Mole is VERY reserved and shy until he gets to know you. After he does hes a total GENTLEMEN. He knows all basic commands including sit, lie down, and shake! He seems to love when we call him Mole Cannoli!

No behavior issues

The best home would be a nice quiet home with older kids and a patient family that will allow Mole to come out of his shell- he's totally worth it and the best boy when he does! A home with a confident dog is a plus as it will help Mole build his own confidence and show his true personality.

Mum is a black Shepherd, pictured last.

Mole is being fostered with his rescuer in San Antonio, Texas, patiently awaiting you to secure his ticket on the PJ and bring him up to his furever home in Colorado!

Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa.

Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio.
