MOANA's Story

11/29/25 16:09 Meet Moana, a 4 year old 75 pound female Pit Bull. She has Mild periodontitis and is overweight. Moana is a leisurely walker, who loves to take her time and thoroughly investigate each interesting smell! She is quite treat motivated and a sweet and affectionate girl who wants to be close to you. She struggles with other dogs, and would likely best thrive in a single dog environment. She is good with a harness, car rides, and is overall an extremely gentle and easygoing dog. Moana would be a wonderful companion to enjoy a relaxing life with. 09/16/25 15:51 Moana is a sweet dog who has been at the shelter since 2/18/25, she would greatly benefit from a pathway out of the shelter whether that be foster, adoption, or rescue. Placed on Needs Rescue. 12/10/25 13:23 What did we do on today’s adventure:
Oh man! I was happy to go out for a walk today. It was a little
chilly, but it was beautiful. I met a new human friend and was very 9
friendly while she got me harnessed up. I was on my best behavior
the whole walk! We went to Hellyer park. So many things to
smell....people, dogs, animals. I loved to smell the side of the trail
and read the doggie news. I tried my best to walk nicely next to my
new human friend. I sometimes got excited when we passed other
dogs or people but only because I wanted to say hi!
We went for several miles. It was a lot of fun. What a great day.
What should potential adopters know about me:
- Moana is a total sweetheart. She warmed up to me immediately
and was calm while I put on her harness. She enjoyed scratches
and pets and was affectionate with me during the car ride and hike.
- She is a bit overweight, which makes me sad because she is
probably getting overlooked because of that. She had good energy
and we walked at a fast pace for several miles....over an hour and a
half. She went strong the whole way. I think if she is able to get
out of the shelter and get some consistent exercise, those few extra
lbs will melt away quickly.
- She was well behaved during the car ride...she was quiet and no
barking. She did love the scratchy feel of my car seat cover. Poor
girl just wanted a good scratching! It probably felt so good to get a
good back scratch.
- She pulled a little bit towards people and other dogs, but it seemed
to be in a friendly, curious way. I did not see any aggression
whatsoever.
- Overall Moana seems like a really sweet, solid companion. The
poor girl has been stuck in the shelter, but she still was so sweet
and well behaved. She was very affectionate, warmed up right
away. She responded well when I tried to get her to change
directions, slow down, speed up. I really enjoyed my walk with her
and think she will make an excellent companion.
Three words to describe me: Sweet, Curious, Friendly 10/16/25 11:45 What did we do on today’s adventure: Today was my third Trails & Tails outing
and now that I know the drill, I was feeling much more relaxed and comfortable!
Getting harnessed up was easy - no stress at all - and then we were off on our
adventure. I settled right into the back of the car like the polite girl I am and enjoyed
the ride to our destination. Once we started our walk, I took my time enjoying every
single moment. I'm what you'd call a leisurely walker - why rush when there are so
many wonderful smells to investigate? Each scent tells a story, and I wanted to read
them all! I showed off my sit command whenever my walker asked, especially when
treats were involved. Did I mention I love treats?? The whole outing was very
peaceful, and I loved being able to relax and just take everything in at my own
comfortable pace. This is exactly the kind of adventure I enjoy - calm, steady, and full
of interesting smells.
What should potential adopters know about me: This was her third outing, and
her increased confidence and comfort level really showed – she was much more
relaxed this outing now that she understands the routine. Moana is a polite passenger
who rides calmly in the back of the car. She's a leisurely walker who loves to take her
time and thoroughly investigate all the interesting smells along the way - perfect for
someone who enjoys peaceful, unhurried walks. Moana is quite treat motivated and
has mastered a solid sit command. She would thrive in a calm home as an only pet
with an adopter who appreciates her measured pace and gentle approach to life.
Moana is the ideal companion for someone looking for a relaxed, easygoing dog who
will be happy to explore the world at a comfortable, enjoyable speed.
Three words to describe me: Easygoing, Calm, Inquisitive 07/21/25 08:05 What did we do on today’s adventure: Today I got to go out and spend a
couple hours doing my very favorite thing – sniffing!! I was so excited
when I got in the car I had to roll all around in the backseat. Then we got
to the park, and I got to sniff so many new smells!! I spent so much time
walking and smelling, my nose was in over drive. I showed off how good
my sit is for some yummy treats and enjoyed getting scratches during our
breaks. We saw a few other dogs which I wasn’t a big fan of but did my
best to ignore them. Finally, we went to Dunkin for a pup cup which was
delish (though I didn’t want to leave the AC – it was hot out!).
What should potential adopters know about me: Moana is a gentle and
curious girl. She was a little nervous coming into intake but was happy to
see me and easy to harness up. She was excited to get outside and get
sniffing, she hopped in the car no problem and rode nicely in the back.
Moana loves to sniff and enjoys a relaxed slow walk where she can make
sure not to miss any smells. She is a very good loose lead walker and sits
nicely for treats. Moana was unreactive to other people, bikes, cars, etc. but
she is not a big fan of other dogs and would prefer to be an only pet. She is
a sweet and affectionate girl and likes to be close by you. Moana would be
a wonderful companion to enjoy a relaxing life with.
Three words to describe me: Sweet, Gentle, Mellow
