Miso's Story

Miso is a 5 year old neutered, 70lb Samoyed mix. He is looking for a home with an experienced adopter, where he can reach his full potential and feel safe. He was adopted to a young couple who had a baby about a year ago and Miso is not adjusting well to the toddler. He's always been uncomfortable with children moving around and it unfortunately escalated from nipping at the moving child to a bite. Miso is dog selective and would do best as the only dog in the house, as he has bitten two other dogs who were moving around in his personal space. On walks, he ignores other dogs, however, if they are reactive, he will match the energy with a reaction and leap at them. His family tries to cross the street to avoid other dogs and this helps. He has boarded with other dogs and there have never been any issues.

Miso has been good with visitors coming to the house and will sit patiently until given an OK to say hello. After a polite sniff, he will usually walk away and ignore them with very little interest in interacting. He will resource guard his food, crate and bed from other dogs and in the past he did guard his food when his family went too close. Miso is an anxious dog in general, who will take time to adapt to new environments. He can be left alone and is not destructive, but he might howl, bark or pee in new places until he acclimates. His current family is home most of the time but he has been left for 6-8hrs in the past with no issues.

Miso has a lot of challenges to overcome, but he also has a lot going for him! He is housetrained and crate trained. He isn't usually shut in his crate but he does enjoy lounging in there throughout the day. He is great in the car and has even flown in the cabin with his humans and did well. Miso is professionally groomed once a month and is a gentleman with the groomer. And on top of all that, this guy is a real smarty pants! He knows the cues sit, lay down, wait, leave it, break, peek-a-boo, roll over, spin, speak. And drumroll pleasehe is bilingual, and knows the word foose, which is German for heel!

He is anxious at the vet, and leery of his back legs being handled. He requires a home with someone who understands his unique personality and is committed to strong management of his environment to help build his confidence and ensure everyone's safety. Might you be able to provide a calm place for this special guy to land?
