Milo's Story
It's time.... Milo is ready to find his forever home. His fosters have been INCREDIBLE, Milo has been loved, cared for, protected, and is thriving because of this community of lifesavers who believed in him...
NOW, he deserves a permanent home of his own, a family, some dog siblings... His foster moms wrote this beautiful, informative bio for Milo to help us find the perfect home for HIM... is that you?
Please read til the end:
Milo is a sweet boy who had a very rough start in life.
That has not stopped him from being a loving dog, and learning what it is to be loved back.
Milo is learning everything for the first time it seems.
He prefers to potty outside, but if he can’t get outside in time, he almost always uses puppy pads.
He’s able to hold it for longer and longer the healthier he gets, but right now he does need more frequent potty breaks than other dogs his age might.
A fenced in yard will help tremendously with this as his two fosters did not have this at either home, so he had to be on leash at all times.
Once healed he was able to meet his FIVE foster siblings (4 dog brothers and 1 dog sister).
He LOVES to play and is learning from all of them how to have different play styles for every age- younger and wild like him and much older and gentler.
His siblings have given him a couple of corrections when he plays a bit too hard, which he receives well and quickly adapts his play style.
He has been around cats (3 currently live in his foster home) and seems disinterested for the most part, mostly just giving them a glance or a brief sniff before moving on.
As far as toys go, he is definitely a super chewer kind of guy.
He used to eat soft toys, so he’s made huge strides as he does get to have stuffies now but be prepared- they only last 5 minutes and there's a lot of stuffing to be cleaned up ??
He only gets those when monitored though.
Fabric toys and soft toys are some of his favorites- to destroy.
And once he’s found one he likes, he’s very reluctant to give it up and you may have to toss a yummy treat or find another toy to distract him.
It doesn’t seem like resource guarding so much as him just getting hyperfocused on the thing he wants.
As he feels more comfortable and safe, we’ve been seeing big improvements with this!
He’s responding well to being told ‘no’ and being redirected to a ‘yes,’ however, it wouldn’t hurt to brush up your slight of hand so you can make things disappear as needed.
He doesn’t seem to have had a lot of training prior to being found, so he’ll need some time spent learning how to be a house dog.
Think of him like a big puppy or very strong toddler!
He is so loving and wants to play, but doesn’t yet know the difference between playing with a human sibling and playing with a dog sibling.
He’s very interested in children but hasn’t quite figured out how to interact with them yet, so he resorts to licking and nibbling them and their clothes.
Milo was never aggressive with his human foster siblings (ages 11, 8, and 6), but because he does play a bit too rough, he would probably do best in a home with no children, or with older kids.
Milo has come so far, but still has a little ways to go.
We’re confident he’ll be an amazing friend and companion since he’s very eager to learn.
He’s already learned so much since the first day, but guess what!?
If you adopt Milo, his training is all sponsored by Miss Cindy at Patient Paws Positive Dog Training (what a sweetheart!).
Milo loves pets and snuggles when he is tired but is still very curious about everything.
As we mentioned, it is a whole new world for this sweet little man.
Milo already knows ‘sit’ and ‘potty’ and loves his treats and yummy rewards!
He makes goofy faces, rolls around on his back like Raygun the Australian break dancer, does an impressive Chewbacca impression for attention, and has a very durable noggin that remains intact despite clumsily coming into contact with almost everything in his vicinity (be prepared to hear ‘thunk’ a lot).
He will make the perfect fit for someone who is committed to showing him the patience and kindness and love that exists in this world.
If you want to be the next chapter of Milo’s story, this boy is ready enjoy his fresh start at life with his forever family ??
THANK YOU TO ALEX & CARYSSA FOR OPENING YOUR HEARTS AND HOMES TO MILO!! And for writing such a detailed description so we can find the best home where Milo will continue to thrive and bring so much love and joy along with him.
If you're interested in meeting Milo, please apply here:
https://www.hshobart.org/adopt/adoption-application
And if you can't adopt or Milo isn't the right fit for your home, please share this post!
