Milo's Story
Hi, my name is Milo! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: A little shy at first, but super sweet, silly, playful, and affectionate once he knows you!

-Can Live with Kids: Milo can be sensitive to some handling (likely in part due to discomfort stemming from current condition of his skin) and would do best with gentle, respectful, older kids who can read/respect canine body language and know not to overwhelm. At this time we're recommending ages 10+ (at counselor's discretion!)

-Can Live with Cats: Yes, Milo lived successfully with cats in his previous home and should be fine doing so again. As always, slow, supervised introductions to any new kitties will be necessary to ensure everyone gets along!

-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, another dog of similar size and energy level should be fine! Initial intros done at WHS.

-Can do Apartment Living: Yes, with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, although it should be noted that Milo can be quite vocal!

-Potty Trained: Milo's previous owner said he's not fully potty trained so he may need some help from his new owner in this area. With a consistent routine in his new home we imagine he should catch on quickly (getting him neutered should also help!)

-Bite History: No

-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: No

-Energy Level: Medium

-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Neuter/microchip

-Additional Information: Milo is an adorable young Poodle mix surrendered to the shelter because his previous owner was moving and couldn't take him with. Initially very fearful/shutdown, he's warmed up quite a bit since arrival and is making progress (and new friends!) every day! Milo does still have some stranger danger/fear when meeting new people (seems to be a little more timid/standoffish with men in particular) and will need a patient adopter who understands he may need a longer adjustment period than some other dogs (very important he not be pushed too hard to meet new people or do new things before he's ready!) Once Milo is comfortable with you (it really doesn't take much!) he becomes quite the charmer. Peppy, energetic, playful, super goofball, affectionate, very much a lapdog! Milo is currently experiencing some skin issues (red/raw, itchy and irritated) but with a high quality diet and regular brushing/grooming/flea treatment, we expect him to start feeling better in no time.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
