Mikey 's Story

SENIOR OWNER ASSIST

THIS IS NOT A RESCUE DOG -THIS WILL BE A PRIVATE PARTY TRANSFER AND THE RESCUE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR TEMPERMENT OR THE BEHAVIOR OF THE DOG! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU MEET THE DOG. THIS DOG WILL DO BEST AS AN ONLY DOG IN THE HOME.

Meet Mikey, a truly remarkable boy who is looking for a replacement family!

Mikey has been living with a senior lady for 5 of his 9 years, however he was owned by another family member for the first 4 years, so she has known him all his life. Unfortunately, as happens to older folks, she has to move and Mikey cannot go with her. Everyone is heartbroken, and so he needs to be responsibly rehomed.

Mikey has been a companion, a caretaker basically, for his senior owner. And he is very good at it. He only barks to alert his owner to things that are not normal, as he should. The home is not a social hub of activity, nor is it frequented by little folk very often. He has met a cat, there was a standoff, until the cat scurried away, so not outwardly prey driven but we are not sure. He is dog reactive, because dogs do not belong in his yard. Mikey is 80 pounds and too big for his current owner to walk, this coupled with his dog reactive nature makes walking him regularly not possible for her. As you can see, in the pics, he does have some leash manners and appreciates a walk. He is up to date on his vaccines BUT he is currently intact. However, if you can open your home to Mikey, he will be neutered prior to you taking possession of him.

This affectionate and loyal older gentleman has a heart as big as his personality. With a curious and playful nature, he loves to play, especially if it involves his favorite toys. Mikey is a smart boy who is food motivated, making him an eager and quick learner. He already knows some essential skills, being both potty and crate trained. He has a brave and dignified presence, but don't let that fool you; he's a silly, funny pup at heart with a love for life and those around him.

Mikey is an independent thinker with a mind of his own, but he is also attentive to and protective of those he loves. He would do best with someone that can appreciate his energy level, he loves to play and needs someone that can provide him with the stimulation and the consistency he thrives on. He doesn't need outings; he is a homebody, but playing is his jam.

While Mikey prefers to be the only furry friend in the household, he loves the ladies. His meetings with strangers in the home have all been positive just infrequent. He is great at the vet and out and about. Mikey is eager to find his new people and fill their lives with love. He barks when he should, making him the perfect protector. We are hopeful that his perfect home is out there.

Please contact us using the Pet Finder process or you can email us at resilientdogrescue@gmail.com and we will get you in contact with the current owner's family to explore if Mikey is a good fit or not.

Resilient Dog Rescue 's Adoption Policy
Our multi-step adoption process includes an application, meet and greet, animal introductions when applicable, and a home check. We highly value the time and effort put into adoption applications, and encourage thorough, thoughtful responses as this is our primary avenue for getting to know your family. With that in mind, please be aware that applications with excessive blank or one-word responses may not be considered. Animal introductions will be done for each pet currently living in the household. While we are not here to judge your lifestyles, we also conduct home checks to ensure that the household and backyard will be a safe living environment for a SacRDR dog. The Declaration page of your Homeowners Insurance policy or an approval letter from your landlord must be submitted with your adoption application; these documents are required to ensure that your HOI or landlord covers/accepts the breed you are applying to adopt. If you have any additional questions, please email adopt@sacrdr.org.
