Mike's Story
"Mike" is a handsome, approx 1½-yr old male GSD who is super-friendly and playful. Mike is still a puppy at heart. He is accepting of strangers right from the start. He will roll over on his back and let you scratch his belly. Mike's great with the middle-aged male Lab mix that he lives with--he'll play hard with him if the other dog allows it, but doesn't push if the other dog is not in the mood to play. He hasn't been around young kids yet, but is surprisingly composed for a dog his age--I wouldn't rule out a family with really young kids for Mike, though there is the risk that he'll be too much dog physically for kids under about 5. Mike has yet to be around cats, so for now, no homes with cats will be considered. Mike is a long, tall GSD who is at an age where his bone development is full and now the rest of his body is playing catch-up. Mike probably weighs about 70 lbs at present, but will likely be around 90 lbs filled out.

Mike's caretakers are presently keeping him outside and in the garage, because there is a cat inside the house. He has been very non-destructive in the garage, especially for such a young dog, and "holds it" until he can go outside; so, he's likely house trained. Mike obeys some basic commands such as "sit" and "shake", so he's obviously received some training. Mike loves to play fetch and is very toy-motivated--he'll be very easy to train.

Mike is presently with a couple in North Natomas who took him in approx March 3 when someone found him wandering near their house. All efforts to find Mike's owner have been unsuccessful so far. The couple are not in a position to keep Mike, so are seeking a new home for him.

GSRSV has evaluated Mike and is placing him as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is seeking a new home for Mike through its adoption program while his owner continues to care for him. Mike's adoption fee is $250.
