Mickey's Story
Meet Mickey! He's a high energy youngster, always ready for fun and adventure! He's about a year old, and appears to be a cattle dog/heeler kind of guy, currently weighing in at 45 lbs. He recently got to take a field trip to town, and here's what his handler had to say, "he will lift his front paws onto the tailgate for you to lift him in the truck bed. He’s a little excited when traveling, wanting to stand on the bed rail, but a shorter tie will help him to learn to keep all four in the truck. He enjoyed being on the long line at the park and beach to explore. He had a better recall with a triple combination of the verbal “come” command with a whistle and hand signal. He loves to chase crows, so anyone with a garden can be sure nothing will be touched by birds. He’s still a puppy, so can be distracted easily. He did very well respectfully meeting a couple dogs today and shows a wrestling type of play style accompanied with herding dog leg nipping. He did not jump on his handler at all, but is excited when meeting new people and wanted to jump up to say hello, although he did start to understand the “off” command with consistent requests to keep all four on the ground. He will need a good routine of exercise, a job, obedience training and maybe a play buddy to work off that puppy energy. He’s a very kind dog that enjoys attention and allows you to pet him throughout his entire body. He just needs the basics put on him to succeed in the family environment." He made it into a play yard today next to Tonks & Dino and is ready to mingle. So far, he loves all the dogs & humans, but cannot co-exist with a cat. Mickey did okay in a crate but didn't like it.
