Mickey's Story
Mickey came into rescue with another dog after they were dumped. Our regular foster had taken them in temporarily and stated that they were severely matted and a mess. She shaved them in the worst spots and their coats came in darker in those areas. She then contacted us to take them and find them homes. We believe that Mickey is a labradoodle or a doodle of some kind. He is approx 1 1/2 years old.Mickey is a sweet, gentle boy. He enjoys playing with the other dogs and is learning the ropes of being a house dog. He is really doing quite well in the house and has not chewed anything or gotten into the trash or on the counters. Mickey will put himself into a crate when he wants "quiet" time. He is fairly calm and easy going. His coat will need care so please plan on regular grooming to keep it looking its best. Mickey has not tried to jump or dig out of a fenced area so he should do well being let out into a secure fenced area. He has been doing well with pottying outside but we never guarantee that any of our dogs will be fully housebroken. He is good with kids and other dogs. We are not sure about cats as we have none but he would probably be fine with proper introductions. He does not seem to have a high prey drive and is pretty mellow. He rode pretty well in the car to his vet appt so if you travel or like to go out and about, he should be a good traveling companion. Overall, Mickey is proving to be a wonderful dog who will make a nice addition to any home/family.
Mickey saw the vet on 1/26/26 and was found to have a cherry eye that we had removed while he was under for his neuter. Vet stated that he may develop dry eye in that eye since removal of the cherry eye affects tear production. If dry eye develops, artificial tears can be given daily to keep his eye moist. He tested negative for heartworms and has been started on Simparica Trio for flea control and heartworm prevention. He tested positive on his fecal for hookworms and coccidia and has been given a Drontal to treat the hooks and toltrazuril to treat the coccidia. He may require a follow up in 3 weeks. Mickey received his year rabies and DA2PP vaccinations. Mickey weighed 59.5 pounds as of 1/26/25.
If interested in giving Mickey his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Mickey's adoption fee will be $400 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Mickey based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
