Mia's Story

Meet Mia

Mia is a 10-year-old Chihuahua who came to us after being surrendered by her owner due to housing issues, allergies, and excessive barking. Big life changes have been hard on this little lady, and she's taking her time adjusting to shelter life.

According to her previous owner, Mia can be growly and may snap at unfamiliar people and other dogs. She is very protective of her family and can be defensive until she has time to get to know someone. Mia does have a bite history from 2022, so she will need an experienced, patient adopter who understands small-dog behavior and respects her boundaries.

Since arriving at the shelter, Mia initially shut down and was very reserved. With time and consistency from staff, she is slowly beginning to warm up and show progress. Medical staff recently completed a dental cleaning and extracted one tooth, and she has been more tolerant with handling, though she can still become tense with certain types of touch.

Mia is timid by nature and needs someone who will allow her to move at her own pace. A quiet, low-traffic home with no young children is strongly recommended. Positively, she is doing very well with her small canine kennel mate, suggesting she may do well with another calm, respectful dog.

Mia is looking for a calm, understanding home where she can feel safe, build trust, and enjoy her golden years. With patience and compassion, she has the potential to be a loyal companion to someone willing to meet her where she is.
