Humane Society of Sarasota County Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Adoption Hours Monday: Closed Tuesday–Thursday: 10am–6pm Friday: Noon-7pm Saturday: 10am–4pm Sunday: Closed At our shelter, all dogs must be escorted out on a leash and collar. For smaller dogs, a carrier or crate may be used instead. All cats require a secure carrier for their journey home. Should you find yourself without the necessary supplies at the time of adoption, we offer a selection of basic items available for purchase right here at the shelter. Our adoption process is designed to be thorough yet efficient. It includes an essential meeting with the animal you are interested in adopting. If the animal is prepared to join a new home, you may be able to complete the adoption on the same day. Please note, the process can take up to an hour or longer, particularly if there are specific medical preparations needed for your new pet. We aim to facilitate immediate placements into loving homes, and as such, we no longer offer holds on animals ready to leave the same day. Included in the Adoption Fee: The adoption fee covers the cost of spaying or neutering your pet, micro-chipping, annual vaccinations, and a rabies vaccination. For residents of Sarasota County, there is an additional $13 fee for a rabies tag and registration. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure a smooth and successful adoption for each animal and their new family. Thank you for supporting our mission and choosing to adopt.
