Merryweather's Story
**WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES** Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization and all our dogs and puppies are in foster homes - we are not a shelter and do NOT have a facility where we house our dogs. For adoption information go to: www.homewardbounddogrescue.com. You must fill out an application online as we do NOT accept applications at our clinics.

Merryweather is a 2-3 year old terrier / chihuahua mix and is 12lb. She is a sweet little southern belle who enjoys lounging in sunshine and receiving all the pets she deserves.

When first introduced she can be timid and skittish but warms up quickly, although loud noises and some movements still startle her. She seems to prefer women but may tolerate a man as a back up human. I think she would be fine with calm, older children. So far she does very good on a leash and will gladly go potty in the yard.

She seems okay with other dogs but can have issues with resource guarding, both with food and her human’s lap but is otherwise not aggressive and will just growl and nip at the other dog. She may do well with another dog who is more independent, as long as she is given her own space while being fed.

She is very excited about cats and loves to chase them, sniff them and give them kisses. This can be a lot for a cat who isn’t tolerant to affectionate dogs but she will quickly lose interest if the cat jumps to where she cannot reach.
She does not like being in a crate and will quickly become upset if placed in one. I am unsure if she can be crate trained or if she will settle down, she may with some positive reinforcement. She also seems to have some level of separation anxiety as she whines and becomes upset when left “alone” (even if only on the other side of a baby gate or door).

Merryweather would thrive with someone patient who will allow her to settle into a stable home life. She is very food motivated and should do well with some more training.

Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.
