Merida's Story

Sex: Female
Approximate Age: 11 months
Size: Large when fully grown

Meet Merida
Merida is an 11 month old bundle of energy who absolutely loves people, loves to play, and loves being part of the action. She is high-energy, friendly, enthusiastic, and always ready for her next adventure. If you're looking for a dog who will happily keep you on your toes, Merida may be your girl!
But Merida comes with a little more baggage than your average puppy. She has grown up in the shelter, and unfortunately, she has picked up some habits along the way that she now needs help unlearning.
One of Merida's biggest challenges is resource guarding. She will need an experienced adopter who understands resource guarding and is prepared to work with her using appropriate training and management. This is not something we want to sugarcoat. Merida will need someone willing to put in the time and effort to help her develop better habits and learn that she doesn't need to guard what she has.
When Merida gets overly excited or overstimulated, she can also get mouthy. She's not always sure what to do with all those big feelings and big bursts of puppy energy, so she needs to learn how to channel her excitement appropriately. Think of her as a very enthusiastic teenager who hasn't quite figured out her manners yet.
Merida isn't looking for just any home. She's looking for the right home. An experienced dog owner who is ready to provide structure, training, exercise, boundaries, and consistency could help this energetic young dog become the wonderful companion we know she has the potential to be.
If you're looking for an easy, already polished dog, Merida probably isn't your match. But if you're an experienced dog person who sees a work in progress and thinks, "I can help her," Merida might just be the girl you've been waiting for.
Merida has a lot to learn, but she also has a lot to give. She deserves the chance to learn how good life outside the shelter can be.
