Meatball's Story

This a handsome, black and tan 1.5 year old German shepherd boy was given the BEST name by his 6 year old boy up north - Meatball. Meatball is the perfect mix of GSD with something else in there to soften the somewhat, um, intense traits of a purebred shepherd. Mama was a black GSD and papa was a GSD x so he has enough shepherd in him to be smart, loyal, loving, and playful but it's his flopsy ears that give insight into some mystery genes in his makeup.

Meatball is fostering in the country where he has offleash field run privileges because he's so dependable running free. He loves nothing more than to enjoy the ick and muck of the spring fields with his fabulous northern compadres. He could be described in nature as hippity-hoppity-joy-wrestle-run-glee and when it's over he climbs into his crate for a catered meal and a nap. He has great dog skills - as any self respecting northern does - and shows the utmost respect to the higher up dogs in his foster. It's not where you are in the hierarchy, it's just knowing your place and acting accordingly. That being said, he looooves to play and play hard so he's hoping his new family has a wrestle mania mate.

Meatball is the perfect size at approximately 60 lbs and given the choice, he's going to be following his person out and about cutting wood, doing the horses, going for walks, and just hanging out. Meattie is friendly with every person he meets and jogs up to meet them with a grin on his face and a wagging tail.

While Meatball may have bits of another breed in his mix, he checks the box to some fab GSD breed characteristics - intelligent, quick to learn, sensitive, and he has that deep bark that is a breed giveaway. But he also has non typical GSD characteristics such as being open and welcoming to strangers, great with dogs and cats, not protective of his home or people, and no interest in climbing the social dog ladder. This boy is the full package of kind, intelligent and wanting to please.

If you are a GSD fan, this boy would make an awesome addition to a country lifestyle where he has the ability to exercise and interact with his environment and his people. Meatball is looking for a home where his brain and joy of dog play are embraced because that is a fulfilled Meatbll.

Everyone who meets Meatball falls in love with his coy humility. He's handsome and interactive. He loves people. He is playful and fun with dogs. He's athletic. He's grateful. He's ready for commitment from people who are ready to do right by him.

Meatball is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, dewormed, and microchipped. His adoption fee $750.

Adoption process includes application, virtual home visit, phone interview, reference check, meet & greet, adoption contract and $750 adoption fee.

***Fill out the ADOPTION APPLICATION at:
https://signup.ifaw.org/en-ca/northern-dogs-adoption-application-form

Meatball is ready and waiting for his new country life.

Northern Dogs Project's Adoption Policy
Northern dogs are not a breed but a lifestyle. Until recently most dogs were free roaming but communities are now making changes to how they want to coexist with dogs and many are now tying. Dogs are all identified by Animal Care and are adopted to families in the south as family members only. Northern dogs are smart, experienced, dog social, have been handled by kids, feel safe with women, and are slightly unsure of men at first. Dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (core vaccines DAPP and rabies), microchipped and dewormed.
