McGuire Ortiz (CONC-A-100)'s Story

DOB: 01/03/2023

McGuire was born into our care in 2023. Since then, this 2.5 year old, 45 pound cattle dog mix has spent every day of his life here, surrounded by the same walls, the same routines, and the same familiar faces who have become his family. He doesn’t know what it’s like to curl up on a couch, or to wake up in a quiet home. But we believe there’s someone out there who will give him the chance.

McGuire is a gentle soul with a timid streak. New faces can make him a little uncertain, but he’s never pushy or bold, he meets the world with soft eyes and a submissive nature. Around those he knows, though, a different side of him comes out: he’s goofy, affectionate, and quietly playful. He has a sweetness to him that’s impossible to ignore.

Where McGuire really shines is in the company of other dogs. He lights up when he’s with his shelter playmates, following their lead and drawing comfort from their presence. For that reason, we’re looking for a dog-savvy home with one or two friendly canine companions who can help him continue to build confidence and experience joy outside the shelter. Children might be a bit overwhelming for him, so a quieter home with adults or older teens would be the best fit.

Because McGuire has never lived in a home, everything will be new: house training, stairs, indoor noises, and basic manners. His adopter will need to be patient and prepared to start at square one, but in return, they’ll get to watch a dog discover the world for the very first time. There’s something incredibly special about that.

McGuire may be quiet and a little unsure, but he’s also ready. Ready for a soft place to land, for kind hands, for the gentle guidance of both humans and dogs who can help him grow. He’s waited a long time for someone to see him. Maybe that someone is you.

If you would like to meet McGuire, give us a call at (704) 784-7387 pr fill out or online application
