Mazikeen's Story

Breed: Pittie mix
Age: 7-8
Weight: 50ish lbs
Adoption fee: $175

Mazikeen is a 7–8-year-old, roughly 50-pound Pittie mix who never expected to find herself starting over. After losing her favorite momma human to extreme depression, Mazikeen suddenly lost the home and family she had known — including the comfy couch where she loved to curl up and snuggle.

At almost 8 years old, Mazikeen doesn't understand why her entire world has changed. She went from having a home and a person of her own to living in an overcrowded shelter, surrounded by the noise, stress, and constant activity that comes with shelter life.

Mazikeen has been at the shelter since December 16, 2025. More than nine months have passed since she lost her home, and she has spent all of that time waiting for someone to give her another chance.

But despite everything she has been through, Mazikeen remains the sweet, calm, affectionate girl she has always been.

It has been verified that Mazikeen received professional training earlier in her life, and it shows! She is good on leash, good with other dogs, and was potty trained when she lived in her previous home. She is active, healthy, and still has plenty of life and love left to give.

Mazikeen isn't looking for a life of constant adventure. What she really wants is something much simpler — a comfortable place to call home, a soft spot to curl up, and a person who will love her as much as she loves them.

This Is Not the Retirement She Deserves

Unfortunately, Mazikeen's life right now is very different from the life she once knew.

Mazikeen currently resides in a rural shelter in Kentucky, where she is one of nearly 300 dogs waiting for their chance at a better life. With just one shelter worker for roughly every 50 dogs, the shelter is severely overcrowded.

And Mazikeen isn't even living in the comfort of an indoor kennel.

She currently lives in an outdoor kennel, constantly exposed to the elements. Throughout the summer, she endured 90+ degree temperatures and relentless sun. Now, as fall brings rain and winter approaches, her living conditions have become increasingly difficult. The constant rain this summer and fall has turned the ground around her kennel into mud — mud that has essentially become her home.

The video accompanying this profile shows the conditions Mazikeen is currently living in.

Imagine going from curling up on a comfortable couch with your favorite person to spending your days and nights in an outdoor kennel, exposed to scorching summer heat, pouring rain, mud, and the cold weather that is quickly approaching.

At almost 8 years old, Mazikeen should be entering the calmer years of her life surrounded by comfort and love. Instead, she has spent more than nine months watching the seasons change from behind a kennel door.

And yet, she remains the same sweet girl.

She still enjoys her walks. She is good with other dogs. She knows how to behave in a home. She is potty trained. She has been professionally trained. She is healthy, active, and ready to be someone's companion again.

Help Mazikeen Get Out of the Shelter

Mazikeen is looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home that can give her the comfort, stability, love, and attention she has been missing.

Cleo’s Legacy is willing to take Mazikeen into their rescue program if an approved foster or foster-to-adopt home steps forward. That means her foster family would have the support of the rescue, including medical care, foster supplies, transportation, and more.

Mazikeen has already spent years knowing what it feels like to be loved and to have a home. She knows what it's like to curl up on a couch, have a person of her own, and feel safe.

She shouldn't have to spend the next chapter of her life living in the mud and exposed to the elements.

She still has so much life left to live — and so much love left to give.

If you think Mazikeen could be the perfect addition to your family, please inquire about fostering or foster-to-adopt.

Mazikeen has already lost the person she loved most. She shouldn't have to lose her chance at a peaceful, comfortable life, too.

If you’re interested in fostering or fostering to adopt Mazikeen, fill out the application below!

https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/NKY/Dog

Any questions about Mazikeen or the foster/foster to adopt program through Cleo’s Legacy, please feel free to reach out at the following email!

emma@cleoslegacy.org
