Mayday's Story

Mayday Mayday!

Mayday is an 8-10yo 14lb Pom/Eskimo who was dumped on the street.

She is very sweet- timid at first but warms up quickly - and is very affectionate. She will be happiest with kids over 12 or an adult home.

She loves other dogs and people.

At the vet visit we found that her heart and lungs are great- but her labs came back indicating kidney issues. We are going to start a renal friendly diet with the plan of care being repeating labs in 4 weeks. Her teeth are in rough shape and she needs a dental but she needs to gain some weight and stabilize her kidneys so she can have a dental. We are hopeful her kidneys disease can be slowed or even halted and this cab turn around for her - to give her the best chance for as much time as possible.

It’s likely that the person who abandoned her knew that her kidneys weren’t functioning well and for whatever reason decided they could not help her or did not feel they could see this through with her.

She is asymptomatic- she doesn’t have any symptoms- of renal disease, so it’s always possible there was an aberrancy in the lab results and in 4 weeks there could be a complete turn around, but we have to also be realistic- if your interested in her then it’s best to also be realistic.

With this information we are looking for an adopter who sees Mayday and wants to spoil her everyday- an adopter who wants to give her the world for as long as she is in it. We want to give her a family again - one that will see this through with her.

In the end we never know how much time we have or they have and as heartbreaking as it is when our pups leave the world no one ever regrets loving them.

We’ve had dogs with similar or worse renal disease that have responded to diet changes and gone on to live multiple years (Martha comes to mind if you remember her!) so we really just don’t know- it would be a huge leap of faith but we are hoping someone is up for it, for her bc we know she is worth it ??
