MAY's Story

MAY / Age: 11 Mths / FEMALE / MIXED BREED / WEIGHT (18lbs and 8kgs) / Rescued from Barbados / Currently fostered in Toronto

Good with dogs/older or dog savvy kids
Untested with cats

House and crate trained

Major medical concerns: none

If you’re looking for a loyal, quirky, cuddle-loving best friend, meet May — the shy girl with the big heart and the even bigger collection of “treasures.”

May arrived at her foster home unsure of the world, but every day she surprises her foster family with new confidence. At first, she was scared of the backyard—now she zooms across it with joy. Loud noises once stopped her in her tracks—now she’s learning that the world isn’t so scary after all. With gentle guidance and patience, she blossoms a little more each day.

Inside the home, May is pure sunshine: curious, affectionate, playful, and incredibly sweet. She loves belly rubs, cuddles, and learning new things (especially when treats are involved!). She’s as smart as can be and proudly mastered “sit” in one evening and house-training clicked within a week! She also enjoys exploring the house, tossing toys around, and running up and down the stairs. She’s quick and agile and loves to show it.

After some morning activity, she settles beautifully for naps and is happy in her crate. She gets along with her foster’s dog, but she is really a people-oriented girl who thrives on human affection. She also has the cutest habit: she collects things and brings them to her bed—slippers, toys, gloves, socks—she’s like a little curator of cozy treasures. She never destroys them; she just likes to keep her favorite finds close.

Out on walks, May loves quiet laneways and sniffing adventures. Busy streets and loud vehicles are still intimidating, but she’s improving daily. She is still shy when meeting new people but with time to approach at her own pace, her affectionate side shines through.

May would do best in a patient home that can help her continue building confidence and celebrate her gentle, sensitive nature. She could live with another calm dog or be your one-and-only snuggle buddy. She’s medium-energy, low-shedding, healthy, and full of love to give.

May is ready to find a family who will adore her sweetness, laugh at her toy-collecting antics, and help her continue her journey from shy girl to confident companion.
