Maxx's Story

3/26/2026-adoption pending to Maine adopter- thank you!
yankee chihuahua rescue

Added 3/20/2026

🐾 Meet Maxx — A Tiny Gentleman With a Big Heart
Maxx is an 8 year old, 6 lb neutered male who has mastered all the important basics: he’s crate trained, house trained, and was reportedly pee pad trained as well (though we haven’t tested that yet).

His previous owners had several dogs and were struggling to keep him safe, so they made the difficult but loving decision to surrender him to their local veterinary clinic. While there, Maxx received updated routine vaccinations and dental care, and he’s now ready for a fresh start.

🌟 A Resilient Little Soul
Maxx may be missing one eye and has previously broken a leg—twice—but you’d never know it from the way he trots around the neighborhood. He loves a brisk walk and enjoys exploring at his own pace.

He is slow to warm up to new people, but once he trusts you, he becomes deeply devoted. Maxx is the kind of dog who will follow his person from room to room, just happy to be close.

🐶 Personality & Preferences
Maxx’s ideal home is one where affection is abundant—preferably with someone who considers “petting a Chihuahua for hours” a personal hobby.

Because of his past, Maxx is understandably nervous around other dogs. He doesn’t bark or react aggressively, but he becomes frightened when he feels cornered. He currently lives with two dogs (one large, one medium) and is doing well, but he would truly prefer to be the only dog in the home.

That said, with the right calm, patient canine friend, he might be able to share his space.

He also lives peacefully with several guinea pigs and pays them no mind. Based on his behavior, we believe he would likely do well with cats, as he tends to avoid anything that worries him and is not reactive toward animals that leave him alone.

👶 Best Home Environment
Maxx would do best in a quiet home without young children. He thrives in a predictable environment with gentle handling and a person who understands that trust takes time—but is worth every moment.

Maxx adoption fee is $150

**Please note we are NOT A SHELTER. YCRAA aims to long term fit matches with our adoptions, and we have a lifetime take back guarantee! Prior to meeting one of our dogs, you must submit an application, and have your vet reference, landlord check, personal reference and home visit done prior to meeting/adopting one of our dogs.

If you are interested in adopting Maxx, please click on the following link, Serving the Six New England States (yankeechihuahuarescue.org) and be sure to read our adoption process.
