Maxwell's Story

MEDICAL CASE

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Max, He is a 6 year old Australian Shepherd mix that came to us 5 years ago having been surrendered by family with multiple family members and animals living in an apartment, He has a medium hair coat and weighs about 85 lbs.

Max has been with our Rescue for a few years. He has matured very nicely and his temperament is lovely. He started having seizures a few years ago and it is managed well with Phenobarbital and Kepra Medicine. The cost for the two meds is about $80 a month. We found that storms, even far away, seem to trigger them. He eats twice daily and his meds are added to each meal.

He is very good with other dogs. The meds have a calming effect on him so he no longer is a high energy dog. His family means everything to him. He loves children and going for walks twice daily. Being outside during nice weather with the family members is a favourite past time of his. Max is not vocal. He rarely barks unless he wants something. He does best on a food with Grain in it. He has gained some weight so we have taken away treats and lowed the amount of food intake.

Max walks quite well on a harness lead. He does well at the vets and loves everyone. At night, he sleeps on a Karunda bed during the warmer months and a doggie bed in the cooler months.

He really is a very nice family dog, and will go with the flow. He would do well with a family with older children.

Max is neutered, up to date with vaccines. His bloodwork was recently done and his meds have been filled.

This sweet boy deserves a family to call on his own. He is worth the cost of his meds as his disposition makes up for it.

He does have a prey drive so no cats for this boy.

Visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application.
