Maxine's Story

Hello friends, my name is Maxine.

I am happy to see my neighbors overcome with joy for their new found life since being rescued. For many of them this is the first time they've known safety, comfort, and true love. Unfortunately the narrative is not the same for me. Local animal lovers had reported a stray dog wandering around the neighborhood for several weeks. While there were multiple reported sightings, every time the animal control department was dispatched I had already disappeared. My curiosity prompted me to explore a bit further and aided in my capture. One of the apartment residents was able to secure me in a crate and arrange for my transport to the shelter. I am grateful that she played such an instrumental role in saving my life.

My backstory remains a bit of a mystery but I was previously spayed, housebroken, and well trained. This naturally leads the staff to believe that, at one point, I was a very loved pet. I will never understand what could have possibly motivated my former family to dump me but my abandonment weighs heavy on my mind to this day. I am incredibly reserved and am slow to trust new people. Even after I let my guard down I can still come off as emotionally distant and unaffectionate. Don't let this discourage you from giving me a chance though - there is nothing cuter than seeing my giant smile and wagging tongue when I'm running around with the wind in my hair. Due to my current emotional needs I am not well suited for a household with small children. Though I am not a fan of cats, I have the potential to live with a mellow male dog who lets me have my space and just wants to chill out together.

If you believe that you can give me the loving home I deserve, please ask about adopting me! I promise you won't regret it!
