Martha's Story
Meet Martha!
Martha came to us as a stray, estimated to be around 4 years old. When she arrived, she was frightened, extremely underweight, and clearly had not been cared for. Despite all she had been through, she never showed an ounce of aggression - only fear and uncertainty. Sudden movements made her flinch, and she would cower around people she didn't know.

With time, patience, and gentle encouragement from our staff and volunteers, Martha began to open up. She has thrived in a foster home with one of our team members, and lived comfortably alongside two other dogs (one large and one tiny). She has also met some teenagers in the neighborhood and did wonderfully with them.

Every day, Martha grows more confident and trusting of the world around her. She is crated when no one is home to help her feel safe, and although she appears to be an adult, she's starting to show some adorable puppylike behaviors as she learns what it means to feel secure.

Martha will need an adopter who can give her time, patience, and understanding as she adjusts to a new environment. We don't know what her past looked like, but we do know she wasn't treated kindly - and she deserves a future full of love. She has recently been spayed and is heartworm positive, but thanks to our generous donors, her full heartworm treatment is funded and expected to begin this month.
