Marshall's Story

Marshall is about 5 years old and weighs 65lbs. He appears to have had some prior training and is very loving. He walks well on a leash and is incredibly well mannered and appropriate with people. Marshall is a hard NO for homes with cats or other small animals. We have not been able to test him around other dogs yet. Unfortunately, Marshall is Stage 2 heartworm positive (moderate symptoms including a cough). We still anticipate Marshall will do very well with his treatment; we're just slowing down the timeline a little bit. We do not anticipate any long-term complications, although we would not recommend him to be anyone's future running partner.<br/><br/>Marshall is in Birmingham and we anticipate him being medically cleared for adoption early/mid May. Weimaraner Rescue of the South's Adoption Policy

Weimaraner Rescue of the South is a strong advocate of responsible pet ownership, which includes and is not limited to: 1. Consistent history of preventative care, including monthly heartworm prevention and annual wellness exams, vaccinations, heartworm tests. 2. All current pets are spayed or neutered. 3. WRS rarely places dogs into homes without a structurally fenced yard. We do not consider "invisible fences" to be a suitable substitution. Any person/persons applying to adopt who does not meet the responsible pet ownership requirements set forth by WRS will have their application denied. Each dog offered for adoption has been spayed or neutered, is current on all shots, has been heartworm tested and is on heartworm preventative. WRS will make recommendations of dogs who match the applicant's lifestyle, home environment, activity level, etc. We will not place a particular dog in a home if we feel it is not a suitable fit. Adult dogs - $425 Puppies younger than 6 months - $500+ $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit Senior dogs (age 9+) - $350 Effective 7/26/2023, WRS has put into place a policy where we will be doing prophylactic gastropexies when any of our rescues are being either spayed or neutered. Gastropexies are the only proven way to reduce the risk of GDV (bloat) in dogs, which is oftentimes fatal. Because this is a significant additional surgical expense, we will be implementing an additional fee of $150 to our standard adoption fees for any dog who receives a gastropexy.
