Marmalade's Story
Marmalade is a three-year-old, 35-pound Australian Cattle Dog mix who is learning that the world can be a safe and gentle place. She spent a year in a crowded county shelter with little human interaction. She then was sent to a foster home in which she quickly got out and was back on the streets for a few weeks before it was back to the county shelter. Marmalade was then set to be euthanized, and HFG stepped in.

Marmalade is a shy girl, not brave enough to make friends right away. But behind that timid exterior is a sweet soul who truly longs for connection. If you sit quietly with Marmalade a few times, she will work up the courage to come closer, gently placing her paws in your lap and sometimes offering the sweetest, cautious kisses. It takes time to get there with her, and it's not something that can be rushed. When she feels the pressure is all on her, she can react negatively out of fear.

She walks nicely on a leash although still cautious of her surroundings. While not particularly treat-motivated, Marmalade’s progress comes through patience and quiet encouragement rather than food rewards. She thrives when given the time and space to move at her own pace. She spent a week at board and train with Paddock's Paws where she worked on building her confidence and broadening her circle of trust.

Marmalade’s ideal home is with someone experienced and confident in helping shy dogs blossom, someone who finds joy in watching small, daily victories build into lasting trust. She will need continued training. With love and consistency, Marmalade will reward her person with deep loyalty and gentle affection.

Her adoption fee of $250 includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, and a wellness visit.
