Marlin

Marlin is a pit shepherd mix, male, three years old. He is white from nose to tail with a black patch over one eye, a black ear, and a pink freckled nose, and he wears the same wide open grin in nearly every photo anyone takes of him.<br/><br/>He came in as an owner surrender along with his son, Nemo, who is about a year old. The two of them are easy together and they are available as a pair, but Marlin does not need Nemo in order to do well, and he can go home on his own.<br/><br/>Marlin is friendly, and he is working on his confidence. He wants to be near people and he is glad to be greeted, and he does best when that introduction happens on his terms rather than all at once. Give him a minute to decide you are all right and he settles in.<br/><br/>He already knows sit and he is very treat motivated, which is the combination that makes the rest of training easy. Anything you want to teach him, you can pay him for. A family who keeps treats in their pocket for the first few weeks will build his confidence faster than anything else they could do.<br/><br/>He is very dog friendly. He is comfortable in the company of other dogs, so a home with a resident dog is a real advantage for him and not just something he can put up with.<br/><br/>He has not been tested with children, so we would want any kids in the home to meet him first and let him come to them.<br/><br/>He has not been around cats that we know of, so slow and supervised introductions are recommended there.<br/><br/>Marlin does not need much. Steady people, a dog friend if you have one, and a pocket full of treats.<br/><br/>We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability.
