Marley - Smart, friendly German Shepherd Dog looking for a home!'s Story

This dog, y'all! Marley is a young (~1.5 year old), female German Shepherd. She's on the smaller size (under 40 lbs), though she'll likely bulk-up as she gets older and settles into her forever home. She's mostly house-trained, goes easily into a crate, walks nicely on a leash, knows basic obedience commands, and give kisses when allowed (and even sometimes by surprise).

Marley is part of the H.A.L.T. (Humans & Animals Learning Together) program, where she's completed 4 weeks of basic obedience training by instructors and volunteers paired with at-risk teens in residential treatment programs. She enjoyed showing off her super-smarts in obedience classes. Catching on to all the skills quickly. Being young, she gets excited easily but her teen trainers did a great job getting her to focus on work for the class.

One instructor said about her: "Marley is so darn smart. Gets it all so quickly. When she loses focus her trainer says In a firm voice “Marley Focus” and she is back to looking at her for the next command. She [teen trainer] is extremely good with her."

Another: "She’s [Marley] constantly looking for a task and the boy she’s paired with is super great about asking her for something before she gets too distracted! They worked on shake, crawl, roll over, with me, stay, come and puppy push ups! Shake is coming along but could still use some work haha. She’s such a fast learner and is so excited to learn new things that I’m sure they’ll have it down soon!!"

And a third: "Once focused and one on one Marley is a sweet, loving and extremely smart girl. She learns fast and is eager to please. She is full of energy and loves one on one attention and would be an amazing companion to a prospective owner."

Whether you are looking for a GSD, specifically, or just a very smart, beautiful young dog to join your family, you can't go wrong giving our Marley a closer look. You won't be disappointed!
