Marley's Story

Marley was adopted from our shelter as a puppy. He and his brother Elliott ended up at another shelter in Colorado. We quickly reclaimed them in order to find a family that is a better match for him.

We learned from his first family that Marley loves older children (9 yrs. and up). He is not as comfortable with toddlers. He does well with cats and grew up alongside another dog (his brother Elliot).

Marley is a bonded pair with his brother Elliot. Marley was made with spare bits and parts and is the short king of our shelter. Both Elliot and his brother Marley were previously adopted out, however were found and returned to the shelters as strays when their original owners no longer wanted them. Because of this sad past, Marley is shy and has anxiety. He looks to his brother Elliott for confidence and will often hide under Marley when he begins to feel unsure of himself. Much like his brother Elliott, Marleywould do anything for a good bowl of stinky wet dog food and this is the key to building trust with him. Marley feels safest in his kennel, preferably alongside Elliott, so having a safe space for Marley to decompress is essential in his new home. Marley will need some extra love and attention to feel fully comfortable in his new home, but trust us when we say that he is worth it. Marley gets along well with dogs of all sizes, people, and cats.

Marley needs to be with his people the majority of the time and he needs daily exercise/healthy stimulation. His former family had to spend significant periods of time away from him . Marley will benefit from socialization and some positive training.

Marley is a little shy at the moment, but is easily won over with loving attention, play, and treats.

He is neutered, fully vaccinated, and ready to go home today. He has been house-trained. You may visit Marley and Elliott by appointment at our shelter near San Luis, CO, or any Saturday in Colorado Springs. Please call us in advance so we can make space for them on the ride.

If interested, please email us: woof@slvaws.org

San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society's Adoption Policy
The San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society is a nonprofit (501c3) all volunteer organization (only 1 person paid to clean our shelter). Our primary mission is to improve the well being of animals (primarily dogs and cats) in the San Luis Valley (SLV). The San Luis Valley is the largest alpine valley in the world (roughly the size of Connecticut). It is also the poorest region of Colorado (1/3 of the residents in the county our shelter is in live below the poverty level. Our extensive spay/neuter program has reduced the number of homeless animals in this valley. And we have provided many many families with fine companion animals.
