Meet MARIO

HEART THROB ALERT!!

Oh man, is this little guy handsome. I mean, just look at that dignified chin, that cute head cock, those debonair eyes and those impossibly attractive ears. Who can resist?? Add to this, he is a GREAT size, sturdy as they come loves a good shot gun, fun run and how can you go wrong?

Now, we don't know if Mario is a Boston/Min Pin mix but if we are guessing, based on his fire plug build, his cute but cocky attitude and his curious nature, we think if he is not, then whatever he is, it's dang adorable.

Mario is about 6 months old and came to us when we heard he had been left behind by renters, when they moved out. It was probably a good thing, since those renters didn't take care of him, when they lived there, leaving Mario completely alone, day after day, in a lonely backyard all by himself, since puppyhood. His saving grace, were neighbors, who kept an eye on him and snuck him food and water, when his people were away. When they left for good, leaving this sweet kid behind, one of the neighbors snatched him up and started looking for better options for him. We were happy to help.

As you can probably imagine, Mario is a wee bit socially challenged, having spent most of his young life, completely alone. He is a wee bit shy when first meeting new people but with each introduction, finds more and more confidence and gets better at it.

We have said he is good with dogs, because for the most part, he is BUT, given he has never learned the art of reading dog body language by having canine friends of any kind, he is hit and miss, with interactions. Sometimes he is extroverted and outgoing and other times, he hangs back and watches. Especially if the dogs are bigger. He LOVES other dogs but sometimes his greetings are more on the...shall we say...romantic side?? Which as you can imagine...is not real popular. During assessment, his favorite friends to play with, were the younger pups, about his age, who are more forgiving of awkward friendship attempts and less intense with corrections. After he figures out romance is not as fun as playing, the games are on and he has a ball. He met the assessment cats with calm curiosity that did not illicit any bappity baps, so if your cats are calm he will probably be OK but if they run, all bets are off.

Inside the house, Mario originally did not want to share human attention with other dogs and protected a lap, if he was on it but he is a quick learner and after being shoved off the coveted lap, when trying to get bossy about who it belonged to, quickly understood that he needs to share and now happily does so. This is probably training that will need to be ongoing until he feels more secure in any new environment. He also loves to sleep on the bed with his humans, if he is allowed to. His housebreaking skills are also a work in progress but progress is excellent. With plenty of opportunity to go outside to do his business, he will but he is not going to ask to go outside or ring any bells yet. Since he is young, long stays indoors without being let out, could mean accidents too but this is typical of any dog his age. To his credit, he has mastered the doggy door and with each day, he shows a clearer understanding of what is expected of him

Mario does pretty dang good, walking on a harness, which was all new to him when he first arrived. He will hang back, if he is feeling insecure but more and more, he is understanding how the leash works and trusting his walkers. He stays quietly in a crate, though will emit the most pitiful sounding "woooooo" when first placed in one, hoping someone will hear his song and let him out. He rides great in a vehicle, loving the shot gun position and would be a super traveling companion, for somebody who is on the road a lot, or traveling the country in an RV. He is not particularly barky, so condo or apartment living is not out of the question and at 18lbs, he will be under most weight requirements. Just be aware of the "wooooo"

In a nut shell, Mario is a handsome, sturdy, fun sized, loving little guy, who needs to catch up on his social skills with both humans and dogs, with someone who can guide him in a positive direction. He is willing and 100% able and has shown tremendous improvement in his foster home already.

Mario is neutered, five way and rabies vaccinated, fecal checked clean of intestinal parasites, is flea and tick free, microchipped and ready to go.
