Marcus (Sammy)'s Story

Sammy is a sweet man with an introverted demeanor. He would do best in a house with other dogs. Sammy has exhibited strong separation anxiety in his past home (solo animal household) due to this he was destructive in crates and when left alone. However Sam has been in a foster home with a staff member who has successfully been able to leave him home, not kenneled, for hours at a time (4 hours so far). Sam seems to do great having dog companions to make him feel safe and curb that anxiety. Sammy is house trained but may mark in new environments, in foster he wore a belly band when unsupervised / overnight. If using a belly band it is imortant to change when soiled and allow breaks for airflow to avoid uti etc. Sammy is completely fine in a home with cats (foster has 3), however if his dog friends chase the cats so will he, pack mentality boy. Sammy enjoys pets and sharing your bed with you. He gets excited when his people come home and will lick occasionally but isnt an overly affectionate guy. He knows his name and comes when called. Sammy walks on leash well but can also be off leash in safe environments ONCE the trust is built and you feel safe with his recall. He does well in the car and with baths. He isn't an overly active boy and truly prefers to lounge and nap most of the day. Sammy does not understand how to play with toys! He has shown interest but overall is very awkward with toy time. In short what I would recommend to give Sammy the best chance to thrive is a home with company; whether that means doggy friends, a retired person or someone who works from home and goes on adventures together. Sammy just wants to be a part of YOUR life.
