Maple's Story

Meet Maple!

She's a little pocket pittie who was picked up as a stray with her possible sibling, Moo, in Texas. Her and her sister were rescued from a high kill shelter, where they had been slated to be euthanized the following day, and brought to Simsbury. Her and her sibling had been very close to each other when they first arrived, but after a couple of weeks, they decided they didn't want to be together anymore, and now have to be kept separated, and cannot be adopted together.

Maple is a little over one year old, and fully grown at 32lbs. She knows how to sit on command, to sit nicely for her food, and, with effort, can sit and wait to be told "let's go" before heading outside. She is learning to walk politely on a leash, and does well at night or early in the morning, but when it is light out she does want to be sniffing the ground, and chase after any squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, or other dogs that she might see. She is learning "leave it", "look at me", and to stay in "place" without having to be told to. She's crate trained, and will go nicely in there when it's time. She LOVES people, and can be a little timid at first, but quickly gets excited and extremely happy to receive attention from everyone she meets, and to give affection back. She has been great with older kids, but can be pretty energetic, so might be too much for young children. She does love to play and run around in the yard, and go out on walks, but also loves to snuggle in with people in the evening to relax. She is very sweet and silly, and eager to explore the world. She is not a fan of other dogs, and would do best as an only dog.

Maple will need some time and patience to get used to her new home. She'll need more work on ignoring distractions, and walking nicely on a leash. She is eager to please, though, and just wants to be around her humans. To help with adjustment to a new home, one free in-home training session with our trainer, Outrider Dogs, will be included, provided her new home is relatively close to the area. Her crate, bedding, and toys can also be included if desired.

If you’re interested in adopting Maple, please fill out an application on our website, www.outriderdogsrescue.com. Your application will be sent to the current owners for review and you will be reached out to if a good fit!

Thank you for choosing adoption!
Outrider Dogs Rescue
