Major's Story

Hi, my name is Major and I’m a hound dog! I’ve been living at the Paws for Life shelter for a little while now and I am so ready to get out of here and go on an adventure with you! I love to be outside with all the smells and sights. I have a lot of energy and would probably be the best hiking partner ever! I learn quickly, and I am very food motivated. I love the company of other dogs, and would love to have a dog companion. I am a little selective about people and would do best in a home without kids. I haven’t had the easiest life so far and I am really in need a new beginning.

Major is a high energy boy who does not handle shelter life very well. The shelter is a very stressful, high anxiety place for many dogs. Since major has very high energy levels he is going to need a large yard with a minimum of a 6 foot fence. Hounds are very intelligent working dogs with a high drive that need a job and a lot of space to run around. A dog like Major would normally be used as a hunting dog because of their speed, endurance, intelligence, and agility. For these reasons Major is going to need an owner willing to put in the time to give Major the exercise, mental stimulation, and training that he needs to been happy and to feel fulfilled. Major has a loud voice that he loves to use, as do all hounds, so if you are looking for peace and quiet he might not be the right fit. Major loves the attention of both people and dogs, although he may have too much energy for small children. He also seems to enjoy playing in water! Major would do best with an experienced dog owner that understands how to meet his needs. Right now Major knows a few basic commands like sit and lay down, but is willing and able to learn so much more. If you are looking for an intelligent, high energy dog to add to you family or pack this handsome hound is perfect!

If you are interested in meeting this handsome hound please call PAWS at (719) 543-6464
