Maizel's Story

Meet Maizel!
Maizel is a 6-7 year old mixed breed sweetheart who never met a stranger and loves being everyone's friend. She was surrendered due to a family change, not her personality, and she's been nothing but loving with people-kids included!
She's housetrained, crate trained, does well when left alone, rides nicely in the car, and knows her basic commands. While she previously did well and enjoyed playing with other dogs, shelter life has been stressful and she's shown some dog reactivity here. Because of that, a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs is a must, and she may truly shine once back in a home environment. Her experience with cats is unknown.
Maizel can be startled by loud noises and has jumped chain-link fences in the past, so a secure, sturdy fence is important if she'll be outside. She's also brushing up on her leash skills and making great progress.
Spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on prevention-Maizel is ready to settle into a stable home where she can relax, feel safe, and be the loyal companion she was meant to be.

Erath County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
When someone comes in wanting to adopt, we first ask what they are looking for in a new pet. If they can describe what they are looking for, we will make some suggestions based on that criteria, and then let them go through the shelter looking at the adoptable animals. There are kennel cards on each kennel with information specific to that animal. Once they find an animal they are interested in we do a meet and greet with the person interested in adopting. If they have other pets, we recommend a meet and greet with current pets as well. Whatever animal the potential adopter chooses, we highly suggest a 5 day foster period to make sure the animal and the adopter are a good fit.
