Maize's Story

Maize is a 6-year-old hound/shepherd mix weighing just over 50 pounds, with a heart full of love for her people. She was returned after her previous home proved to be too active for her needs, (there were lots of visitors coming and going which proved to be too much for Maize), and now she’s hoping to find a home that truly understands her desire for a quiet, calm environment. Maize is sweet as can be and absolutely adores her humans—once she bonds with you, she loves hard. She enjoys attending daycare and does well there, showing off her affectionate and gentle nature.

Maizie is able to jump a 6 foot fence, so a home with a 7 foot fence or higher would be preferred but not required. She will need close monitoring in the yard because of her fence climbing skills!

She has been calm and settled since arriving with us. In her previous home, she experienced some separation anxiety. A family committed to continuing her progress, with patience and consistency, will be key to helping her thrive and feel secure. Maizie has adjusted well and has shown us just how and sweet and calm she can be once she knows and trusts you. She has quickly become a volunteer favorite. A home with no children would be best for our sweet Maizie.

Maize is looking for a patient, loving adopter who will give her structure, reassurance, and plenty of affection in return. If you’re searching for a loyal companion who will be deeply devoted to you, Maize just might be your girl.

Visit STAF.org for more information on our adoption process. *** Email adoptadog@STAF.org for next steps! ***

• All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.
• We do not do same-day adoptions. You will be asked to return for at least one follow-up visit, then take the dog home for a trial period before officially adopting.
• You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF.
• Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences.
• We do request vet and personal references.
• We can facilitate adoptions within a 30-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter
