Maisie's Story

Maisie
Female
Age: 2 years
Weight: 21 lbs
Breed: Mixed

Hi, I'm Maisie! I'm a sweet, affectionate, and silly girl who is still learning that the world is a safe place. I can be a little shy and scared at first, and new people, animals, and noises can make me nervous. Because of that, I'm looking for a very patient, loving home that will help me keep building my confidence. Once I start to feel safe, my gentle personality really starts to shine. I'm learning that love is a good thing, and one of my favorite ways to show affection is by coming over for a little rub against you before I wander off again. I like reassurance and do best with kind people who understand that trust takes time for me. Right now, I feel most comfortable in a stand-alone home where things are quieter and more predictable. I listen to every little noise, so an apartment or condo would probably be too overwhelming for me. A home with my own secure yard would be best, since I'm still getting used to being outside. I've made a lot of progress already, especially since starting anxiety medication, and I get a little braver every week. I'm also working hard on my house/potty training. At first, going outside felt really scary, but I'm doing much better now. On walks, I still like to stay close to home, and if I see or hear something that worries me, I may pull toward the house. Right now I usually only go short distances, but I'm improving all the time. I would do best with someone who understands that I need a little extra support. I should be crated when left alone, and I'd be happiest in a home without other dogs or cats. I'm also still figuring out kids — right now, the only child I'm really comfortable with is a 10-year-old boy in my foster home. I may not be the kind of dog who jumps into everything right away, but if you have patience, love, and a gentle heart, I will keep showing you more and more of the sweet girl I'm becoming. I just need someone to help me believe that I'm safe now — and that I really am a good girl. If you are interested in meeting Maisie apply to adopt her at www.causeforcanines.org Adoption fee: $350. Must be an Ohio resident & 23 or older. Children must be 10 or older.
