Maggie Mae (WI)'s Story

Maggie Mae – 9 years old, located in WI
PRO ID: 260442-P-B-OK
Intake Date: 5/6/26
Available Date: 8/17/26

Meet Maggie Mae – The Pocket Pointer With a Giant Personality

Some dogs come with an owner’s manual. Maggie Mae comes with a whole chapter! And she’s worth reading every word.

Maggie is what we call a pocket pointer—a perfectly sized 41.8-pound package of affection, adventure, mischief, and personality. She’s a survivor, too. Found as a stray near Enid, Oklahoma, Maggie arrived in Wisconsin in May 2026 weighing just 32 pounds and barely able to walk. Today, she’s a happy, affectionate, playful girl who has rediscovered how much fun life can be.

And Maggie intends to enjoy every minute of it.

She is a people dog through and through. Men? Wonderful. Women? Wonderful. Kids five and up? Wonderful. Strangers? Friends she hasn’t met yet. She happily greets people at her regular grooming appointments and thinks attention is one of life’s basic necessities.

Maggie is also a spectacular house companion. She sleeps through the night, crates beautifully at home, takes her medications like treats, and loves nothing more than settling onto the couch for some serious television time with her people.

She’s a daddy’s girl.

She’s also a fetch enthusiast, a professional chew-toy de-squeaker, and the undisputed champion of emptying the toy basket. If you put the toys away, Maggie will simply put them back where they belong.

On the floor.

She’s not much of a nuisance barker, either. Her signature “Barf, Barf” is more of a tiny Oklahoma-accented announcement than an actual bark. Even the FedEx driver doesn’t get one—mostly because he comes bearing treats.

Maggie loves walks, hiking, backyard adventures, and canine friends. She currently lives happily with her foster brother, Bart, and enjoys outings with other dogs. She’s shown no aggression, food guarding, or resource guarding.
She does, however, believe she is the Queen Bee.

If another dog is getting pets, Maggie would like to remind you that she is also available.

And she has a serious prey drive. Cats and small animals are absolutely not an option. She also has what her foster family calls Houdini Drive, so secure fencing is essential and a tracking collar is strongly recommended.

Maggie does have some requirements.
She has arthritis and ongoing orthopedic needs that are currently being managed successfully. She needs regular, sensible exercise, joint support, veterinary care, and a family willing to help her remember that sometimes her heart says “Let’s go!” when her body says “Maybe tomorrow.”

She also cannot be traditionally boarded. Maggie experienced severe kennel anxiety in the shelter environment after being returned following her spay. The noise and stress caused her to deteriorate dramatically. She needs a home-based solution when her family travels rather than a conventional boarding kennel.

And yes—there is still a little potty-training work to do.

Maggie is complicated. But complicated doesn’t mean difficult. It means she needs someone willing to understand her.

So, who is Maggie looking for?
Someone who sees the medical needs, the fencing requirement, the prey drive, the kennel limitation, and the occasional “oops, I forgot to let her out” and keeps reading.

Because underneath all of those requirements is a remarkably loving dog who has already overcome an incredible amount. Maggie doesn’t need a perfect family. She needs her family.

A family who will keep her healthy, keep her safe, give her adventures, give her a couch, give her all the pets she believes she is entitled to, and laugh when she unloads the toy basket for the third time that day.

In return, Maggie offers loyalty, laughter, companionship, and an enormous amount of love packed into one wonderfully compact Pointer.

If you’re still reading, Maggie might be worth getting to know.

There’s much more to Maggie’s story.

Her complete profile explains her medical needs, exercise requirements, prey drive, Houdini tendencies, kennel limitations, potty-training progress, training, and what life with this extraordinary little Pointer is really like.

If Maggie hasn’t scared you away yet, please read on.

Maggie May Bio

You may just have found your girl.

TRANSPORT AVAILABLE TO APPROVED HOMES!
