Maggie's Story

Maggie is an "honorary giant" at just 40#. This poor baby girl was used as a bait dog for a dog fighting ring and then brought to the vet to be euthanized. The vet the rescue uses refused to euthanize her and contacted us. We agreed to take her on, get her medically ready for adoption and find her a wonderful home. If you are unfamiliar with the practice, small animals (dogs cats, etc.) are placed in the ring as bait to get the dogs on either end of the ring to rush to it and fight over it, many times to the death. Yes, it is an ugly and barbaric process that not many survive and needs to be stopped.

Miss Maggie loves her humans and will roll over for belly rubs once she warms up to you. She has been out at an event and did beautifully with a large group of people around her. Do you have a soft spot in your heart and home to give this poor little girl the love she so desperately needs?

This is what the technicians at the vet wrote up for her:

"Hi, my name is Maggie. I am a 5 year old, fawn American Pit bull Terrier mix. I came to stay here at the animal hospital about the middle of September because my owner could no longer care for me. I am a very sweet and playful girl, but I do need a firm voice and strong grip. I am learning to walk much better on a leash. I could definitely benefit from some structured training. I love to play with toys and run in the yard."

Given her experience you can understand that she is dog selective and would love to be your only snuggle buddy. We do not know how she is with cats.
