Maggie's Story

Maggie is a striking 2-year-old soul searching for a heart to call her own. With her gorgeous dark brindle coat, distinctive black patches around her eyes, and crisp white accents on her chest and feet, she is truly one-of-a-kind. Maggie has been waiting at the shelter for nearly 100 days, and she is ready to trade her kennel for a home where she can be your constant companion. As she likes to say, "I'm a big fan of hugs, cuddles, and kisses. I just want to be someone's little shadow and best friend."<br/>While Maggie might be a bit shy when meeting new faces, don't let that initial bashfulness fool you--once she warms up, her love is truly endless. She is the perfect match for a patient adopter who appreciates the beauty of a slow-blossoming friendship. At just two years old, she has her whole life ahead of her and is eager to spend it proving that the best bonds are the ones built on trust. If you're looking for a loyal, striking, and deeply affectionate best friend to follow you through life, Maggie is waiting with an open heart.Give us a call at (304) 387-4102 for more information!<br/><br/>ADOPTION APPLICATION:<br/>All adoption applications are completed at the shelter unless otherwise noted.<br/><br/>FOSTER APPLICATION:<br/>Want to be a hero for a homeless animal in need? <br/>Apply online to become a Foster Care Volunteer today! <br/>https://jchsfoundation.com/FosterApplication<br/><br/>Please keep in mind that this page is managed by volunteers and may not be completely up to date at all times.

Hancock County Animal Shelter's Adoption Policy
ADOPTING AN ANIMAL Adopting a shelter animal is one of the most rewarding things you can do.  The dog or cat will pay you back  with unlimited unconditional love and will provide many hours of devoted companionship. Studies also prove that owning an animal has many health benefits such as soothing stress and lowering blood pressure. Just keep in mind that taking an animal into your home is a commitment for the lifetime of that animal.  A dog can live up to 16 years or more; a cat even longer. You will need to think about that animal's veterinary care, feeding, exercise, and general well being.  To adopt from our shelter, you must fill out an application with references and veterinarian.  In some instances, you may be asked to fill out a pre-adoption form.  Upon approval, you may adopt. We do not hold animals.  Adoptions are on a first come basis. We reserve the right to refuse.
