Maggie's Story

Maggie is scared. Maggie is unsure. Maggie is trying to adjust.....yet again.
Maggie is almost 1yr old.
In this sweet baby's short life she has been abandoned in a landfill, slept on an old thrown away mattress, trapped, moved into a noisy shelter, put in temporary foster care and took her freedom ride to Nebraska where we promised her the best part of her life was going to start.
She's a shy girl who takes a bit to warm up. Her first foster home did good. She played with the resident dog and learned to trust her foster mom.
Excitedly Maggie was adopted after a few months! We were thrilled for her. We thought it was the close of a chapter and the start of a brand new life.
We were wrong.
Transition takes time. And patience. Especially for dogs and pups like Maggie who have been thru so much. Thru no fault of her own and just being scared Maggie was returned to us. We welcomed her back with open arms and put her back in a familiar environment. Unfortunately, that wasnt meant to be either. Maggie had to move; again. Being foster based out space is limited and we had nowhere for her to go. No open foster home to move her to.
We made the tough decision to put her in boarding. Another new environment, another "cage". Another transition. Have you counted how many moves that is? Could you move that many times?
Maggie did ok but she wasn't thriving there. We knew she wouldn't but it was the only choice at the time. Thankfully, it didn't last long.
One of our dedicated foster could finally take her in. As much as we hate transitioning a pup so much we know, ultimately, a home environment is better than life in boarding. So we made the choice to move her again.
Its day 1 in her new foster home and they're taking things slow with her. She's met part of the resident pack and done well. The rest will meet later. Decompressing is what's most important for her right now. But what Maggie really NEEDS is permanence. Stability. And HOME.
Moving can be traumatic all in its own, let alone moving so many times in such a short time span. Its NEVER what we WANT to do. But we're not giving up.
Maggie DESERVES more. Maggie deserves better. Maggie deserves a permanent home, unconditional love and understanding.
Is Maggie an easy dog, no. Is she a warm cuddle bug, not yet.
Is she worth the effort and time, YES! A hundred times yes!!!
Maggie can be dog selective, and thats ok. Maggie is slow to learn to trust, we don't blame her.
Maggie has gone thru more than any young dog should have to. And we're so very sorry. But we know her people are out there. And we know she deserves to be loved by a family who thinks she hung the moon. And we'll keep fighting for her. Because Maggie deserves it. Maggie is worth it.
So when you ask why were so picky, why all the questions, why the long application and why its so much work to adopt......THIS, this is why. Maggie is why. We NEVER want any animal to have to go thru this.
We're hoping Maggie's next transition is one of permanence. We're hoping with all our hearts that Maggie finds her forever and her next place is her last. A home with patience, kindness, unconditional love, time and understanding of what Maggie has been thru and the time she needs to feel safe. To feel loved. And to feel like she finally belongs.
Cold, heartless people dumped her at 7 weeks old in a landfill.......help us find her heart, her warmth and her forever.
