MADELINE Cocker Spaniel & German Shepherd Dog Mix Pasadena, CA

Madeline is a sweet as pie 3 year old black with tan spayed female German Shepherd and Cocker Spaniel mix (verified by Embark DNA) who has begun coming out of her shell after a month in a foster home. Often mistaken for a retriever, with her shiny wavy coat and big brown soulful eyes, Madeline is a true gentle soul. Weighing 50 lbs, Madeline wants to bond and be close to her person as much as possible. This sensitive girl is a bit overwhelmed and insecure and needs to go slowly into new situations and has been startled by ordinary things such as ceiling fans and loud TVs. She enjoys her crate overnight or when she needs a break, and she loves to run around in the backyard with the resident dog. While the big world can be a bit overwhelming at times, she is learning to enjoy neighborhood walks on leash with another dog or two. She has been friendly with the other dogs she's met and had good manners with them. Smart and attentive, she already knows some commands, including come, sit and down, and she has been starting to learn target, place and attention with a clicker. She waits patiently in a sit until she gets the "OK" command with eye contact to start eating her meals. Madeline loves chew toys and balls (will destroy tennis balls in a flash so durable balls needed), and her favorite daily activity is laying at the feet of someone who is working from home. Madeline did not react when she saw a cat in the yard at the shelter, though she hasn't had a chance to befriend one yet. With pretty brindle markings on her legs and a very shiny longer black coat, Madeline is a lovely dog who deserves a wonderful life with someone who can give her the time and encouragement she needs. She would do well being the little sister in a home with another dog who is calm and confident to reassure her.
