Macy *In Foster Care*'s Story

***Please note: Macy is not a candidate for living in an apartment and no applications from anyone living in an apartment will be considered for her. Thank you for understanding that no exceptions can or will be made to this requirement that is in Macy's best interests. ***

Macy is a smart, energetic girl who is ready for adventure. She wants to be a good girl so badly and picks up on things quite quickly (as long as you give her a chance to get the wiggles out first)--but she needs a family that understands that she, like so many of us, is still a work in progress.

Even at six years of age (as of February 2026) Macy is a LOT of dog. She is very strong and doesn't fully understand just how powerful she is. When she crashes into you, you feel it! Given the chance she will crash into you a lot, but if you are rough and tumble enough, and patient enough, you will see her for the goofy, silly pup she really is.

Macy needs a family that is up for the challenge of a dog with a lot of brains but not a lot of self control. We STRONGLY recommend her new family get involved with training for her so that everyone has the best chance of success. Macy will need a home with people who are active and will work with her to expend her energy, that have larger dog experience, and are willing to see the potential she has even when she is being challenging. We will not place Macy in a home with young children, as both her size, strength, and energy level could prove to be scary or even dangerous for smaller human kids.

Macy is a complex and challenging girl. She is quite selective about humans and other dogs and needs to be introduced to new people and other pups slowly and carefully. A natural protector of her chosen people and her house, Macy barks at the next door neighbors at her foster home. She is reactive to other dogs when walking--though with patience and time, she has been known to enjoy hiking with another dog (at a short distance) once she was familiar with them.

While she is not generally reactive to humans when walking/ hiking, people unknown to her should not be permitted to approach Macy, especially if doing so quickly. Macy's anxiety is heightened when humans look her directly in the eyes, when hands come toward her when she is confined, and when she is touched when sleeping. Macy appears to be most triggered when she is at the veterinary hospital: she must be muzzled even when sedated, as she is very frightened and anxious during the course of medical exams, vaccinations, and other procedures.

Macy is reactive when people come to her foster home, as she clearly sees herself as the protector of the home and her foster family. We say that she is human-selective, as she is immediately friendly with some folks, but seems to feel defensive and threatened right off the bat with others. We have not yet been able to crack the code of Macy's reactions to people, but try our best to set Macy and those around her up for success.

Macy’s foster mom reports that Macy is crate-trained, housebroken and doesn't have accidents in her crate. She is a wonderful work-from-home companion and will happily hang out next to you while you work. She stays calm on car rides, is a great hiking buddy, and enjoys walks around the neighborhood--but she does use her considerable strength to pull the person walking her.

Macy loves to lay on the couch or bed for a nap or to be near you while chewing on her bone. When she has enjoys getting and giving kisses and likes her belly rubs. She knows several basic training commands. Macy will sit and wait to eat her food if you tell her to and is not possessive of food or her toys. If you stop petting her too soon she will pull your arm back to her with her paw to let you know she wants more pets, please!

If you are looking for a smushy-faced, girl with a lot of potential, tons of energy and just as much love, Macy may be the gal for you.

If you would like to meet this special dog, please email dogs@lunashouse.org to set up an appointment. Please be patient to hear from us as we are all volunteers and may not be able to respond immediately.

Our volunteers make sure just the right home is chosen for me so they require a home visit to make sure there are no safety issues that could hurt me. You must live within a 50 mile radius of our location in order to be considered.

The adoption fee is $250 and includes vaccines, flea prevention treatment, neuter/spay, and micro chipping. Like us on Facebook!!

Disclaimer:

Visual breed identification in dogs in unreliable, for most of our dogs we are making the best guess at what the predominant breed or breed mix might be. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each dog based on personality and temperament, not breed label.
