Though she is shy by nature, Mace is truly coming out of her shell and doing better every day in her foster home. The more she is exposed to, the better and more outgoing she gets.

Before coming to Wisconsin, Mace spent several months in a high-risk shelter after being found as a stray. That uncertain start to life left her cautious about the world, but it also gave her a deep appreciation for calm, comfort, and kindness.

Mace is currently in a foster home with Mutt Life Dog Rescue that includes multiple dogs and cats, and she is doing wonderfully. She is very playful with the other foster pups and enjoys having canine friends to help her feel secure. She was previously adopted as the only dog in a home, and we found she does much better with another dog or 2 around. Therefore, we are recommending she goes to a home with more than 1 dog.

Her favorite place to be is cuddled up on the couch or curled up in bed with her people, ideally wrapped in a fuzzy blanket. She’s happy to sleep in as late as you want and is overall a very low-key, easygoing girl. She does great in the car and would benefit going to the dog park and on adventures with her future adopter. This girl started out very shy when she first got to her foster, and is continuing to come out of her shell and be more confident everyday. The more places she goes, stuff she does, and sees, the better she gets!

Mace is fully potty trained and does great in her crate or out in the house when left home alone. She doesn’t chew anything in her crate and settles quietly. She likes to play with toys, but isn't a heavy chewer.

Mace is currently being treated for heartworms and can be placed in a foster-to-adopt home while she completes her treatment. She is a wonderful, loving girl who has been through a lot and deserves a patient, understanding home — ideally with at least one confident dog to help guide her. As she continues to blossom in foster care, it’s already clear that she has so much love to give.

Age: Adult
Gender: Female (spayed)
Weight: 39 lbs
Breed: Petite Retriever mix
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Potty Trained: Yes
Crate Trained: Yes
Leash Manners: Improving
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Yes
Good with Kids: Yes

Mace is ready for a calm, loving home where she can continue building confidence at her own pace.
