Macadamia's Story

You're gonna go nutz for him!

Hello my fellows! My name is Macadamia and I am a 3 year old, 60 lbs, male neutered Border Collie mix. I was rescued in Mexico and was there at a foster home for a while before I made way to sunny San Diego. I have been a good boy and have mastered bathroom, crate and leash training. I may get distracted on the leash while waking but re-direction and positive reinforcement helps. I do have some resource guarding issues that I am working on, so management is key.

I am not a tough nut to crack, and just need to exercise and remain mentally and physically stimulated. Brain games, tricks, walks help me a lot. I require a home with structure and management to set me up for success. I am looking for a patient and understanding owner that will help me work through my decision making, and always be the best boy! The help of a professional trainer that will do weekly lessons in home to make sure me and my owner are set up for success would be beneficial. No kids and a single family home is ideal.

I have bilateral hip dysplasia and am currently taking Dasuquin Joint Chews (Three month supply cost ~$40.00, depending on market value and where purchased) to support my joints. I am also highly affectionate and can be a velcro dog. I do have some fear of men, but I am learning to trust with lots of redirection and treats! Slow and gentle intros are key. I am working through resource guarding and trusting men.

I pawmise that we will be fun, loving and health nuts together. My silliness and joy will keep you happy! I will thrive in a home with another dogs and we can just play and get our energies out. I would prefer more females than males in my home and older kids. Hope we can be up for patient training together and teach me some fun tricks!

My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

The Animal Pad's Adoption Policy
We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane. Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational. All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times. All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise. Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000. Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc. Adoption Application: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/
