Mabel's Story

Meet Mabel, the CUTEST EVER 25 pound Podengo mix who hails all the way from Portugal where she grew up in her very own family, including her real four legged mom and littermates. Sadly, all that changed when her human moved to an apartment and dropped Mabel and her four legged family members at the shelter.

At 8 years of age, shelter life was hard for Mabel but luckily for her and her sister (Olive is the black dog next to Mabel and she is ALSO for adoption), some caring people helped to change their path by bringing them to Canada and asking the Northern Dogs Project to help find this ray of sunshine her new family.

Mabel has not embraced the cold and the snow but she has definitely fallen for the couch and her new foster humans! Mabel is the sweetest package all wrapped up in a beige suit and she would love nothing more than to land in the lap of someone with lots of love, attention, cuddles and couch time to give. If you allowed her to sleep on your bed, THAT would be a dream come true for her.

After getting comfy in her foster home, Mabel is showing her funny, sweet, and cheeky personality. Although it's cold outside, Mabel has made it clear that wearing a dog coat is not a thing and she tries very hard to get it off. This may be part of her master plan to get you to notice her because Mabel is an attention seeker. She will also stand on the furniture beside you and stare at you, or flop on her back when you say her name. Adorable! She is done with all the silly puppy shenanigans so if this is her grown up way of making you smile, we will take it!

Mabel is calm in the house, housetrained, and would be an amazing companion for anyone looking for their very own cuddle bug. Mabel has lived with dogs and she may like another dog in the home to help her transition to this new life but she might also shine as the one and only. While she hasn't been officially cat tested, we feel she is too gentle not to get along with cats. Most importantly this cutie patootie wants a loving someone who has the time to spend with her and be dazzled by her scruffy face and funny antics.

Look at those eyes and those cute little chinny chin hairs..... resist her if you can or apply for her today. Mabel is so cute she's edible.

Mabel is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, dewormed, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $750.

**A consult with The Northern Dogs Project's partner dog centric behaviourist is recommended for anyone interested in adopting Mabel at a cost of $80. This consult gets everyone on the same page and on their way to success.

Adoption process includes application, virtual home visit, phone interview, reference check, meet & greet, adoption contract and $750 adoption fee.

***Fill out the ADOPTION APPLICATION at:
https://signup.ifaw.org/en-ca/northern-dogs-adoption-application-form

If you are Mabel's destiny, someone will be in touch.

Northern Dogs Project's Adoption Policy
Northern dogs are not a breed but a lifestyle. Until recently most dogs were free roaming but communities are now making changes to how they want to coexist with dogs and many are now tying. Dogs are all identified by Animal Care and are adopted to families in the south as family members only. Northern dogs are smart, experienced, dog social, have been handled by kids, feel safe with women, and are slightly unsure of men at first. Dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (core vaccines DAPP and rabies), microchipped and dewormed.
