Meet Luna is in Maine!

Luna is a Shepherd/Husky mix who is nearly 7 years old (dob 3/17/18). She currently weighs 50lbs, True to her breed makeup, Luna is intelligent, loyal and active. She likes to stay busy and needs stimulation - both physical and mental. She is very people-focused and would LOVE to soak up all the love of her family. Luna does love to play and be social with other dogs, but given her nature to bond strongly with people, we lean the way of thinking she would do best as an only dog in the home, but aren't totally ruling out her living with another dog. She is good with cats. Any kids in the home should be older.

Luna has worked with many trainers and has all of her basic commands down; she is very well-mannered and polite. She loves to train and “work”. We are looking for an adopter who has previous shepherd or other herding breed experience, since she will need structure and boundaries in her forever home.

Luna has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which is currently in remission. She takes medication daily and follows a strict prescription diet and doing fantastic! She will need to continue with this regimen in her new home to prevent any future IBD flare ups.

Luna has been living in boarding in Cumberland since being returned to AHR in the summer of 2023. She loves all of the staff and her dog friends (and the feelings are mutual!), being able to attend daycare there after adoption would be something she would love.

She can be a little slow to warm up to new people but once she knows you, you will have a beautiful, fluffy shadow following you everywhere. Those who know Luna know that she is a very special, friendly, affectionate, and silly girl who will make someone an amazing companion.

*NOTE: We understand that Luna's medical expenses may be a hurdle for some. If you think you could provide a forever home for Luna that is a good fit and are truly interested in her, but are reluctant to apply because of medical costs, REACH OUT, we can certainly work with an adopter to provide financial assistance. Our number one priority is finding Luna a loving home! We are also happy to discuss fostering as a way to get to know Luna. If you have any questions, or are just curious to learn more, please reach out.
