Luna's Story

Luna is a nice looking pup that has a predominantly tan coat with beige legs and a little black on her tail. She has gold eyes. We don’t know her breed but our guess is a yellow lab retriever and hound mix. The vets estimates that she was born early May. Luna with her sister Luna, came to HART rescue from a shelter in southern Kentucky on 8/4/26 in good health. At 23 weeks old (confirmed as her permanent teeth are about half way through hers gums) she weighed 26 pounds, so we estimate she is going to be a medium sized dog fully grown in the 40-50 pound range.

Luna is a fairly confident pup that loves adults, kids, and dogs. She is a bit shy at first especially in new places but warms up quickly. She is very sweet and loving. Wants to petted all the time, She is very friendly. She enjoys playing, chasing, and wrestling with the other pup in the foster home. She has also started to chase and play with the full grown beagle. She has been socialized with 6 adult dogs (15-75 lbs.) during daily play dates, she does torment them a bit in an effort to get them to play but takes correction well.

Luna has been around 7 younger children (3-13 years old) and takes rough handling well. She is a sweet gentle pup that likes being around her human. She has been walking on a lead and does well, but needs encouragement to get into the car. She does very well in the crate.

Luna is crate trained and is doing well on house training, not completely reliable but very close, only had 1 accident in last 2 weeks (maybe none as foster doesn’t know who had the accident). She responds well to “No”. She comes when called without any training, although has gotten slower to respond as she matures.

She rides very well in the car with no signs of car sickness during trips to the vet. Luna’ activity level is about average to a bit below average. She will play in the yard with other dogs for a while and then lays in the sun and chew on sticks. She will sit with her foster in the afternoon for couple hours watching TV. Luna would do well with another dog that likes to play.

She probably would annoy an older dog or a dog that doesn’t like to play but will take a correction from the dog, she is recessive and doesn’t challenge the more dominate beagle in the foster home. She sleeps through the night in her crate (9:30 to 7:00). She doesn’t get up until foster comes down in the morning.

She enjoys chew toys, tug-of-war, and chewing on sticks. She is food motivated, so training should be easy. Luna would do best with a fenced yard, as she loves to wonder around sniffing and playing with anything she can find. If you think Luna could be a good fit, please submit an application and the foster will bring him to your house for a visit.

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks!
