Luna's Story

Meet Luna! This pocket-sized baby hippo has a gentle soul and a gravitational pull toward snacks.

Luna returned to Miri’s Haven after more than a year in her adoptive home. Her owner experienced a medical emergency, and though her family tried, they weren’t able to give Luna the care she needed. So our girl came back to us: bewildered, confused, and carrying a few bonus pounds like a tiny emotional-support potato.

But she’s resilient and she’s doing great!

Luna has already settled in and rediscovered her hobbies: sunbathing like it's a full-tie job, believing all food is meant for her, and taking naps that could win awards - ideally in her favorite cave bed.

Luna is not super leash-trained, so a fenced in yard here she can waddle, wander, and roast herself like a sweet little dumpling would be ideal. She's housetrained, pee pad trained, and gets along beautifully with the other dogs in her foster home.

Luna is a great passenger in the car, sleeps through the night, and doesn't mind staying home alone while her humans are out. She needs eye drops twice a day but doesn't mind taking them as long as she is in her bed, which is her safe space. Like many seniors (human and canine!), she has some trouble hearing and seeing, and needs a hand navigating stairs. Since she doesn't love being picked up, a home without stairs would be best.

Luna likes having a consistent routine and would love a home that is generally calm and quiet. She's also big on food and snacks (as evidenced by her weight!) - her forever family will need to continue supporting her on her weight loss journey and help her maintain a healthy weight.

This chill, sweet, round girl would love a permanent place to sunbathe. Could you be the one to finally give this girl the forever she deserves?

Luna is approximately 10 years old and 10 lbs.

Fostered in Severn, MD
Please apply at MirisHaven.org
