Lulu's Story

Lulu, 1 yr old female black Lab/Shepherd mix, 50 lbs, not spayed is available for adoption (or foster)

Background:
Lulu’s family cares deeply about her and wants the very best for her future. Due to increasing demands at home—including managing frequent medical appointments for their 4-year-old special needs child, caring for another young child, and balancing full-time work—they feel they’re no longer able to give Lulu the time, structure, and attention she truly deserves. As a result, Lulu has been spending long hours in a crate, and they are hoping to find her a home where she can have more engagement, activity, and companionship.

What Lulu’s Former Owner says:
Lulu is a sweet, gentle, and friendly young dog who loves being part of the action. She enjoys playing, exploring, sniffing, and staying active, whether that’s running, walking, or splashing in the water. She’s especially fond of playing fetch with balls and frisbees and thrives on interaction and attention from her people.

She’s a smart girl with an eagerness to learn and please, making her a great candidate for continued training. Lulu enjoys treats, affection, and cuddling up on the couch with our family after a day of activity. Like many young dogs, she’s still working on her leash skills and basic training, but with more consistency, structure, and a calmer environment, she has all the potential to grow into a wonderful companion.

Lulu loves the frisbee and playing fetch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBLgRAAwGl0

Lulu enjoys tug-of-war: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgyy9TG9vEU

Lulu knows peek-a-boo/sit/down: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/JbshtQ0Tvew

Lulu going for a walk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POIE3tuuCdE&feature=youtu.be

What Lulu’s Rescue Rep says:
Lulu is a bright, energetic dog who will truly shine in a home that can provide consistent training, structure, and plenty of physical and mental exercise. Her DNA shows a mix of 50% Lab, 27% Belgian Malinois, and 23% German Shepherd—breeds known for intelligence, drive, and loyalty. She already knows commands like “sit,” “down,” and “stay,” as well as fun cues like “peek-a-boo,” and performs them impressively.

She loves playing fetch and generally enjoys the company of other dogs, though she can become very excited and will benefit from slow, thoughtful introductions. At a recent pet fair, Lulu initially showed her enthusiasm by jumping, barking, and pulling on leash in a busy environment. Once moved to a calmer space, she settled nicely—taking treats gently, enjoying pets, and showing off her training.

Lulu is still learning how to manage her excitement on leash, particularly around other dogs, and will need continued work in this area. She has also developed some chewing habits when left alone for long periods, especially if items like socks are within reach, so supervision and appropriate outlets for her energy will be important.

Lulu would do best with experienced adopters who are home much of the time and committed to providing the structure, training, and exercise she needs. She could do well with older children and may benefit from a calm, well-mannered older dog to help guide her. Her compatibility with cats is unknown. With the right home, Lulu has all the ingredients to become a fun and loyal companion.

Medical:
Lulu is up to date on Rabies and DHPP vaccines and will be in for a wellness check and spay surgery in the near future.

Lulu is located in: Santa Rosa

If you are interested in Lulu, please email Rescue Rep Kathy at ksmillich@gmail.com In your email, please tell me about yourself and why you would be a good fit for Lulu.
