Hi there. My name is Luke! Life has not been easy so far, but I can tell you that I have come a long way since being rescued! I am a heartworm survivor. I am completely potty trained. I allow anyone to cut my nails. I love car rides (especially if you let me sit on your lap). I am an excellent feet and toe warmer. I love to take bathes and I am an enthusiastic swimmer. I love it! My foster mom says that I am great on a leash, I know all the basic commands and I am a girl's best friend. I LOVE to cuddle! I do have a few faults though ... I snore with gusto and when I have gas, no one will sit next to me. Foster mom also says that I am a hunk. My eyes are soulful and loving, and I am smart and I have a contagious smile. My favorite spot in the house is in a warm bed, under the covers of course, or I really enjoy being on the couch with you. I am crate trained if needed, but I don't chew on anything besides my toys. I require only the "tough chewer" type of play toy. I am great with children and other dogs and often get invited to family gathering and parties. I am just that good. Like any dog, I still need a bit of training. I am not yet qualified to be your in-home door greeter. I get nervous when people come to the door of my home and until I know that they are welcomed friends, I can be intimidating. My bark is big but I think it's my job to warn off strangers and intruders and to let my people know that someone is on our property. (I am getting much better with this and encourage all the help that I can get with reducing my stress and anxiety). I am a very happy, loving and affectionate dog that has a knack for impressing even the most cynical critics. I love my naps and prefer a blanket if you have one but when it comes to being a best buddy, I have no requirements. Just love me for life and you'll have the most loyal and devoted friend you could ever imagine. I just want to be at your side, always. Please help me. I will love you forever and ever. Adoption fee: $75 and includes deworming, testing, vaccinations, neuter and microchip.

A selection of adoptable cats and kittens live at the store full-time and you can see them any time the store is open: Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Sundays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Adoption event dates for 2013: June 16, June 30 (special engagement for 9 Lives for $9), July 21, August 18, September 15, October 20, November 17 and December 15.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.


Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at the link above or send an email to info@pawsforliferescue.org to tell us which pet you're interested in and we'll send you a questionnaire that will help us make the best match for you and your new pet. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
